The Texas Champion Dogwood Tree is 53 years old and is honored as champion by the Texas A&M Forest Service. The tree is located at 43 Morris County Road 2206, a few miles south of Daingerfield on the west side of Highway 259.

This finding came about when a friend, Sandy Rose, was visiting with Cliff and Wynell Steely at their house, as he was traveling from Detroit, Mich. to his home near Arlington. He observed the size of the Dogwood Tree and suggested that it might be the largest in Texas. It was measured and he sent the measurement to Texas A&M Forest Service.

On Nov. 19, 2013, the Steely’s were presented with a Champion Tree Certificate that stated their dogwood tree was 85 inches in circumference, 28 feet high, had a 44-foot crown spread, and a tree index of 124 points. The tree is listed in The Texas Big Tree Registry sponsored by the Texas Forest Service.
