Playoff action got serious in a hurry Thursday night when Hughes Springs took to the diamond against Edgewwod. Playing in Lindale, the Mustangs were in an unfamiliar position early in the game, trailing. Dylan Moore, who is 36-0 in his last 36 starts, gave up a run in 1st inning on a triple that scored a runner from third base after he reached on lead off double. The runner moved to third on ground out to third base, but the defect for the Mustangs increased to 2-0 after a single brought home the runner on third. Edgewood was hitting well in first inning off of Dylan Moore but Moore had a strikeout to end the inning. In the third inning, the Mustangs bats came alive with a lead-off walk to Chad McKinney, Blake Walker pushed McKinney over on a fielders choice, Hunter Smith also reached to give the Mustangs runners on  first and second with one out. After the bases were loaded, Hayden Smith brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly. After the bases were loaded again, Jacob Taylor promptly hit a bomb over the center-fielders head that cleared the bases and quickly game the Mustangs a 4-2 lead. Jake Moore then singled home Taylor to make it 5-2, advantage Hughes Springs. The Mustangs were challenged throughout by a tough Edgewood squad, but with Dylan Moore on the mound, and striking out 6 for the game, he was able to stymie their bats just enough and shut them down when needed and gained the Mustangs another week of playoff life, winning the game 6-4. Star performers for the Mustangs included Trent Anderson who laid down a terrific sacrifice bunt, and of course Jacob Taylor who had the bases clearing double to center. Next week the Mustangs will take on the winner of Sunnyvale and Farmersville, who were engaged in a best of three series at press time.
