Libraries hold wealth of entertainment fun

It doesn’t have to be a boring summer in the Tri-City area, thanks to our local libraries. The libraries in Daingerfield and Hughes Springs have programs geared toward the younger set.
 
Both libraries are having summer reading programs at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays during June and July. New this year to Hughes Springs Library on Tuesdays is junior high students can come at 1:30 p.m. for science experiments.
 
Daingerfield
Daingerfield Public Library will have turtles from the State Park Library visiting at 10 a.m. on June 19. A puppet program will be held at 10 a.m. on June 26 at the Morris County Courthouse Annex. Officers from the Daingerfield Police Department will be at the library to talk to children on July 10 at 10 a.m. Champion Emergency Medical Services ambulance will beat the library at 10 a.m. on July 17. On July 24 at 10 a.m. the Daingerfield Volunteer Fire Department will bring a truck to the library.
 
Hughes Springs
All programs held at the Hughes Springs Library will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays at the library.
 
The following programs will be held:
June 19 – Smokey Bear, a few facts about fire and forests and then Smokey comes for a visit, please bring your camera.
June 26 – Scott McCloud, spokesman and communications consultant for SWEPCO – a pretty cool electrical and safety demonstration.
July 3 – Farmer Preston Currey, from cornstalk to cornbread, see and participate in the whole process including shelling and grinding corn.
July 10 – Professional Storyteller Dru Woods with stories, puppets, and lots of audience participation.
July 17 - Irene Webster from the Texas Department of Transportation. The program will begin inside but move outside to a rollover convincer demonstration about automobile safety, especially wearing seat belts.
July 24 – Music Man Michael Tosh – a demonstration of the different kinds of musical instruments, lots of audience participation playing his homemade instruments to accompany him in ‘your’ band.
July 31 – Hughes Springs Volunteer Fire Department – the program will begin inside and move outside to see the truck and various pieces of equipment. Come prepared to get wet. 
Aug. 7 – County Extension Agent John York – 4-H Heroes 4-Health.
