Jefferson’s community theatre, the Opera House Theatre Players, is in full rehearsal for the upcoming summer musical-comedy, ‘Cheaper by the Dozen,’ to be performed on July 3-4-5 at the city’s downtown Transportation- Tourist Building.

The delightful musical, based on the popular book of the same name by two siblings of the ‘dozen’ family, Frank B. Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbeth Carey, was created for the stage by Mark Bucci, David Rogers and Christopher Sergel and has been a hit for community theatres and high schools audiences ever since.

Because the Gilbreths were not only an extraordinary family, they were also a very real family with the normal ups and downs of family life with a dozen children. The father was one of the great pioneers of industrial efficiency and there are many scientific books by him and about him. What leads to so much delightful comedy is that he applied his special science to his children too. It was his theory that – ‘What works in the factory, works in the house’ – and that happens to be the title of one of the most toe-tapping songs that is sung by the on-stage father played by Patrick Fortune. According to show director Marcia Thomas, it is a great family-fun show and there are several family groups cast in it.

Tickets are on sale now at OMG Lulu’s, 903-665-8855 and may be purchased in advance by going by the store. They are also available at the theatre’s website www.JeffersonOperaHouseTheatrePlayers.com. For more information or to reserve groups, call 903-665-2310.
