No action was taken by the Hughes Springs City Council after a presentation by Barney Bray of Sanitation Solutions regarding garbage collection for the city.

“We did not do so well here last time,” Mr. Bray said. “We have been in the trash business and have had your business years ago. We sold out to Waste. My son came home from college and wanted to go back in the trash business so we went back into the trash business. If you do not have your landfill, it is hard. We permitted my third landfill permit and opened it up three years ago. It is a 640-acre site, with a life expectancy of 125 years. This protects our customers as the landfill people go up and your rate will go up.”

Mr. Bray said at the present time they pick up trash in over 52 towns in Northeast Texas.

“We consider ourselves having a good landfill and doing a good job,” Mr. Bray said. “Some of the things we do where you have grants to tear down houses, we do them. We can also come in and tear down several houses and you pay only for the landfill cost. We also are a big contracting company so we give 50 machine hours per year. We just charge our labor and fuel and can help with water lines. We consider that part of our equipment package.

“We are a little different. We can respond to your problems. We are really interested in your business. We bought Waste out and got a transfer station at Pittsburg that I have built for them. You can bring trash to the Pittsburg station if you have a water bill that shows you live in Hughes Springs.”

Mr. Bray said they also offer recycling and have poly carts.

“The recycling is a real fine idea, but is not economically feasible,” Mr. Bray said. “The market is not very stable. We have never had an issue with our landfill.
