The Avinger Area Chamber of Commerce will host a “Picnic in the Park” in the Avinger Community Park on July 4. Starting at 6:30 p.m. there will be hot dogs with all the fixings served and snow cones for dessert. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. sponsored by the Avinger Area chamber of Commerce. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy a hometown evening of good food, fun, and friendship.

A hometown Fourth of July is on tap for Hughes Springs with the Hometown July 4th Celebration held in Spring Park at the corner of Second and Harrison streets.

From 6 to 8 p.m. there will be a catfish dinner with all the trimmings and drinks. Live entertainment in Spring Park will be performed by ‘Redeemed,’ a group from First Baptist Church.

At 8:30 p.m. a no-motor parade will be held at Hughes Springs Mustang Stadium. Pets are welcome in the parade that will begin on the home team side of the track. The Hughes Springs Library will be selling baked goods at the stadium. Iced cold drinks will be available.

At 9 p.m. there will be a fireworks show to cap off the evening of fun, also at Mustang Stadium where seating on the Home Team side will be available to the public at no cost.

South Union Baptist Church in Jenkins has hired Liberty Pyro Corporation to put on a community-wide fireworks show. The show will take place at the church at 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 6. The 20-minute show will be visible from many locations, including Lone Star Lake; however, everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair to the church.
