Byerly exhibits hometown and school pride

A love of tennis and community has spurred a high school student to give back to her school and community. Audrey Byerly, a high school student at Avinger School, said she wants to give back to her school and community by gathering enough grants, donations and pledges to resurface the school tennis courts, replace the netting and poles and lights. She also wants to replace the back board.
Audrey wants to complete this project, hopefully this summer, and to form a tennis club for students. She hopes the community will benefit by returning to play tennis in the evenings.
“The court resurfacing bid came in at about $11,600 alone so this is no small undertaking,” Audrey said. “I need volunteers and donors to make this happen. The school contacted a company for an estimate. It was Pro Tech Track and Tennis Inc.”
Thus far Audrey has sent out letters informing people of her project and asking for help.
“We also want to do a tennis camp to raise money,” Audrey said. “I hope to have this project completed so I may add it to my scholarship requests for college.” Jackie Smith, superintendent of Avinger Independent School District, said she is proud of all the students at Avinger ISD.
