Kenneth and Bobbie Morgan celebrated 67 years of marriage on June 21. They were wed on June 21, 1947, two days after Bobbie turned 20. Bobbie said she was her mother’s youngest and “she didn’t really want me to get married.”

Her mother told her she had to wait until she was 20 before she could wed. They were married by the Rev. Jimmy Reeder at his home. Her mother and sister were witnesses along with a friend, Billy Adams.

Kenneth said he married the smartest women he knows. Bobbie graduated valedictorian of her class in Hughes Springs.

Kenneth joined the Navy before finishing high school just half a credit away from graduating. He fought in World War II from 1944-46. He said he was discharged from the Navy on Valentine’s Day.

“They gave me a $100 and a bus ticket to Linden and sent me on my way,” he said.

He went to work at Lone Star Steel for 29 years before retiring. Then he started building houses with his brothers.

Bobbie said she had several jobs over the years. She worked at First National Bank Hughes Spring, she was an administrator of a nursing home, and she worked for B.B. Boone Insurance.

In her later life, she volunteered with the hospital auxiliary for several years.

They have three sons, Tony, Mark and Kyle; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Kenneth accredits the longevity of their marriage to the simple fact that, “We just love each other.”

Bobbie said teary eyed that Kenneth is always considerate and accommodating to whatever she wants.

They enjoy playing 42 and belonged to a 42 club for several years. Bobbie’s advice to younger couples is to be willing to be congenial to each other.

The couple celebrated their anniversary with family at Johnny Cace’s Seafood and Steakhouse in Longview.
