Lone Star Mayor Karl Stoermer said the new business coming to town on the corner of Highway 259 and Bunt Street will be a Wal-Mart Express. Mayor Stoermer made the announcement in his report at the council’s July 17 meeting. “The long-awaited name for the store is Wal-Mart Express,” Mayor Stoermer said. “This is like a mini-Wal-Mart. “I would also like to report the city park is getting better and better,” he said. “If you have not seen it, you should drive by there and see it.

“We had a large sales tax payment in 2010 and we did not spend it. We didn’t see where we could get a payment this high at the time, so we held it for four years for anyone to contest it and that time has now expired. So the $33,944.81 that was paid in 2010 is ours free and clear. Our sales rate has gone up. For most of the months of the year, the sales tax has been running between $16,000 and $19,000. One of the things that are making the sales tax higher is the city passed the one half cent economic development tax. “

Mayor Stoermer said the city is in pretty good shape financially.

“Budget-wise we are in pretty good shape,” he said. “We will have to watch our budget in the general fund closely. We have a little more breathing room in the water and sewer.”
