TxDOT introduces “Please Be Seated” Hotline

Each year more children are killed or injured in vehicle crashes than by any disease. Most of these casualties can be prevented by having children properly secured in the latest safety seats when riding in vehicles. This is why the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is introducing the “Please Be Seated” hotline 903-799-1400 for citizens to call when they see a child riding unrestrained in a vehicle.
“We are not law enforcement, so we can’t write them out a ticket, but we will send them a letter explaining the dangers of not having their children properly restrained in their vehicle and remind them that they can be ticketed if children are seen riding in their vehicle not in a car seat,” said Irene Webster, Traffic Safety Specialist for TxDOT in the Atlanta District.
