Services for Halbert D. “Sonny” Barnett, 80, of Hughes Springs were held March 25 at Reeder-Davis Chapel with Ray Parker, Jeff McDonald, and Jimmy Samples officiating.  Interment was at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Hughes Springs under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. Barnett was born Sept. 30, 1932, to Arthur and Carrie Barnett and died March 22, in Tyler.  He grew up in the Cornett Community and went to Cornett, Marietta and was the last class to graduate when it was Naples High School.  On Aug. 28, 1953, he married Nell Hammack and to this union two children were born.  He retired from Red River Army Depot as a Supervisor in Maintenance Directorate.  Mr. Barnett also served in the US Army and was a HAM Radio Operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Jonelle Brock.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Barnett of Hughes Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Larry Terrell of Texarkana and Karen and Billy O’ Steen of Elkridge, Md.; three special granddaughters Lisa, Lindsey, and Ally Beth; and several nieces, other relatives and friends.
