Daingerfiled lost one of its city guardians last week. Amanda Laake Solis, a K9 officer in Daingerfield, passed away from a long battle with cancer. She was 39 years old. Solis was diagnosed with two forms of Leukemia in 2013 and had been undergoing treatment the past year in Dallas.
Solis began working at the Daingerfield Police Department in January of 2012. She graduated from the Northeast Texas Police Academy before her law enforcement career. Many will remember her patrolling the streets with her dog, Diva.
"Officer Solis was always an extraordinary Police Officer.  She always demonstrated professionalism under the most trying of circumstances; embodied patience when others long since would have walked away or gave up, demonstrated humanity toward people who some might say deserved none and showed dedication to duty as the clock went long past the end of her scheduled workdays and those of her family members who waited patiently at home," Daingerfield's Chief of Police Tracey Climer said. "She is well known for her love of animals. I believe she would adopt every animal she possibly could take care of no matter what.  Since January 2012 it is really unknown how many animals she has rescued while working in Daingerfield.
