Candidates sought for area elections

DAINGERFIELD—Just when you though the election season was over, it’s that time again as the next election day is now about three and a half months away. Beginning Jan. 28, filing opened for a spot on the ballot for area school boards and city councils. The last day to register for a spot on a ballot is Feb. 27. There are three places on the Daingerfield City Council that expire in May. Terms expiring this May are now held by Council Members Laura Mabey, Mike Carter and Bob Thorne. The positions are all at-large spots. Applications for a spot on the ballot can be obtained at the city hall, 108 Coffey in Daingerfield. 
Daingerfield- Lone Star ISD There are two spaces on the Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD Board of Trustees expiring this year. These are for single- member Districts 3 and 5, currently held by Lori Bardwell and Jerry Stoermer respectively. District 3 covers the northern parts of Daingerfield while District 5 contains
Lone Star.
Applications are available at the school administration building, 200 Tiger Drive, in Daingerfield. As of press time, no candidates have filed for ballot spots.
City of Lone Star
Lone Star Mayor Karl Stoermer and Aldermen Mona Brown and Randy Hodges’ term in office will expire in May, as well. Ballot applications are available at the city hall, 200 W. Industrial in Lone Star. As of press time, no candidates have filed for ballot spots. City of Hughes Springs Hughes Springs also has three council positions up for election this cycle. These positions are currently held by Mayor Reba Simpson and Council Members James Samples and Jeremy Ale-Ebrahim. As of press time, Simpson and Samples have file for a spot on the ballot. According to the city secretary, Ale-Ebrahim has picked up the paperwork, but has not yet filed.
