Sartain begins new journey as county clerk

Scott Sartain was elected to the position of County Clerk in the November 2014 general election. He is the first Republican to hold a county-wide office in Morris County.
Sartain stated “My desire in the clerks office is to continue to help and represent the people of Morris County.” Prior to being elected to his current position, Sartain spent 38 years in law enforcement. He has held positions as either an officer or chief in Ore City, Daingerfield and Crandle, as well as a spending time as a jail administrator. Sartain has seen many changes in law enforcement over his career. When he graduated from the police academy in 1976, he was already sworn in as an officer in Ore City. Currently, those in law enforcement cannot be sworn into a position until they have completed a six month training course. Likewise, at the time of his graduation he was 19, which was not old enough to purchase a handgun or ammunition. “I could be a cop, but couldn’t buy my own bullets,” he stated.
