Local family prepares for move to mission field

People move every day. They move across town, out of state, and sometimes overseas. The Pope family is preparing to move out of the country, to become missionaries in Peru. Shawn and Jennifer Pope are your typical American family, living the typical American dream. The Popes, along with their three sons, J.C., Shawn, Jr., and Lucas, live in Hughes Springs, where they attend First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs. Shawn works in the oil and gas industry, and Jennifer works with special needs children. Their oldest son participated in a mission trip to Peru in July of 2014 with Bro. Daniel Bramlett, pastor at First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. During this mission trip, J.C. and the group stayed one night at the New Life Children’s Home before heading up into the South Andes Mountains to lead Bible schools. Upon his return, the Pope’s immediately washed and re-packed his bags for the church mission trip to London, England.  Of the mission trip to London, Mr. Pope said that he did not want to go, as it was completely “out of his comfort zone”. He decided to go ahead and go, at the urging of his wife. As the family served at the Missionary Retreat in London, where they helped with Vacation Bible Schools with the missionary kids, the Pope’s both felt God calling them.
