Nicole “Nicky” C. Holland, age 92, passed away Sunday Feb. 15 in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born Nov. 8, 1922 in Warsaw, Poland to Maurice and Berthe Stulman Widerman. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bruce Holland.A Holocaust survivor, Nicky escaped Paris and fought with the French Resistance during World War II. The story of her strength and courage is told in her biography, “One of the Lucky Ones,” written by her youngest daughter. After becoming a war bride in 1946, she became a naturalized American citizen and a proud Texan until she moved to Arkansas in 1997 to be near her daughters. For most of her adult life, she was a homemaker. She is survived by two daughters Barbara Scott and her husband Steven Flemming, and Brenda Hancock and her husband Don both of Fayetteville, Arkansas; six grandchildren Rebecca Barry, Tamara Pedraza, Jennifer Martin, Suzanne Sullivan, Jennifer McCool, and Michael Hancock; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Gardens at Arkanshire. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to an Autism research center of your choice. Cremation under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
