DJH Math team places second in Spring Hill

The Daingerfield Junior High Math-Science team placed second at the Spring Hill State qualifying meet on Saturday, Feb. 27. Queen City placed first, and Daingerfield was followed by Atlanta (third), Hughes springs (fourth), Paris (fifth), Ore City (sixth), Sabine (seventh), and McLeod (eighth). Daingerfield students placing in the top 10 were as follows.

In Number Sense, for eighth grade: Justice Dorman placed first, Victor Gonzalez placed sixth, and Ryan Lewis placed ninth. For the seventh grade: Natalie Beasley placed second, Riley Scholl placed fourth, and Laura Carter placed ninth. For the sixth grade: Jazmin Mendez placed fourth, Sanaa Fields placed fifth, Jaci Simmons placed eighth, and Julissa Chavez placed tenth.

In the Calculator competition for eighth grade: Victor Gonzalez placed first, Justice Dorman placed second, Jamie Nix placed fourth, Ryan Lewis placed seventh, and Nakeisha Robinson placed ninth. For the seventh grade: Laura Carter placed sixth, Natalie Beasley placed seventh, Ebony Chalk placed eighth, and Riley Scholl placed tenth. For the sixth grade: Haley Lewis placed first, Sanaa Fields placed second, Nam Vu placed third, Jaci Simmons placed fourth, Jazmin Mendez placed fifth, Karmen Searcy placed seventh, and Julissa Chavez placed ninth.

In the General Math competition: eighth grader Justice Dorman placed first, while Victor Gonzalez placed tenth. Seventh grade had Laura Carter finishing fourth, and Natalie Beasley finishing in sixth. For the sixth grade: Nam Vu finished fourth, Haley Lewis placed fifth, Sanaa Fields placed sixth, and Karmen Searcy placed tenth.

In the Science competition, for eighth grade: Justice Dorman placed sixth. For the seventh grade: Sonny Wu placed third, Riley Scholl placed sixth, and Laura Carter placed ninth. For the sixth grade: Jaylon Evans placed third, Breana Williams seventh, and Sanaa Fields placed tenth.

Daingerfield now has 21 students qualified to compete at state in 47 events. Eighth graders who have qualified for state include Justice Dorman in four events, Victor Gonzalez and Ryan Lewis in two events each, and Jamie Nix and Nakeisha Robinson, who both have qualified in one event. Seventh grader Laura Carter is qualified in four events, Sonny Wu and Riley Scholl are qualified in three events, Natalie Beasley and Ebony Chalk qualified in two events, and Alivia Ragsdale has qualified for one event. Sixth grader Sanaa Fields is now qualified in four events, Haley Lewis, Jazmin Mendez, and Karmen Searcy are each qualified in three events, while Sydney Key, Jaci Simmons and Nam Vu have qualified in two events. Julissa Chavez, Jaylon Evans, and Breana Williams are each qualified in one event.
