Daingerfield High School takes 2nd in Calculator at TMSCA State

The Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) held their annual High School State Meet in San Antonio on Saturday, March 19th. Daingerfield High School Math Team took 2nd place in the 3A Calculator Team competition.

Daingerfield was led by senior Karter Ford who won the senior individual state championship, by barely edging out teammate Cross Allen who came in second. Also placing in their individual grades in calculator were Mercedes Collins 10th place in the sophomore division and Zach Gilmore who won 2nd, Kayla Watkins who took 4th and Jansen Laney took 5th in the freshman division. The team came in second in calculator to Sabine High School, with City View from Wichita Falls a close third behind them.

In the Number Sense competition, Karter Ford took 6th and Cross Allen took 10th in senior classification. While Zach Gilmore took 9th in the freshman classification. In the General Math event Cross Allen took 10th, and Zach Gilmore took 7th in their classification respectively. In the Science event, in the freshman classification Kayla Watkins took 5th, while Zach Gilmore finished 9th.

In the Top Gun competition which combines the four events, Karter Ford tied for sixth place. And in the senior division of this competition this earned him a scholarship award. Zach Gilmore placed 3rd in the freshman division of this competition.

The Daingerfield Math and Science Team will now start UIL competition, with district being April 4th at Region VIII in Pittsburgh.
