Daingerfield Junior High placed third at TMSCA Championship

The Daingerfield Jr. High Math-Science Team had 21 students compete in 52 events at the Texas Math Science Coaches Association State Middle School Championship on April 16, 2016. TMSCA is open to any public or private school in Texas. To compete in the TMSCA State Championship, students had to qualify to compete in each event.

In a close race for the overall sweepstakes in the 3A division, Ponder was first, Queen City was second, and DJH was third. The Daingerfield team brought home three team trophies, 21 individual top ten trophies, and 14 individual top twenty medals.

DJH also has two individual State Champions. Justice Dorman won the eighth grade general math event and Haley Lewis won sixth grade number sense.

The Number Sense team placed third overall. In eighth grade: Justice Dorman placed second; Victor Gonzalez placed eleventh; and Ryan Lewis placed thirteenth. For seventh grade: Laura Carter placed second; Natalie Beasley finished in third; Riley Scholl in fourth; Ebony Chalk in ninth; and Sonny Wu placed twentythird. In sixth grade: state champion Haley Lewis placed first; Jazmin Mendez placed ninth; Sanaa Fields placed sixteenth; Julissa Chavez finished seventeenth; Jaci Simmons placed twentyeighth; and Karmen Searcy placed twenty-ninth.

The Calculator also placed third overall. For the eighth grade: Justice Dorman placed second; Victor Gonzalez placed fifth; Jamie Nix finished twelfth; Ryan Lewis placed eighteenth; and Nakeisha Robinson placed twentythird. For the seventh grade: Riley Scholl placed fifth; Natalie Beasley placed seventh; Alivia Ragsdale placed eighth; Laura Carter placed twelfth; Ebony Chalk finished in nineteenth; and Sonny Wu placed twentyfourth. For the sixth grade: Nam Vu placed sixth; Haley Lewis placed seventh; Sanaa Fields and Jaci Simmons tied for fourteenth; while Jazmin and Karmen Searcy Mendez tied for eighth.

The General Math team also placed third overall. For the eighth grade, state champion Justice Dorman placed first; and Victor Gonzalez placed tenth. For seventh grade: Laura Carter placed second; Riley Scholl placed twenty-seventh; and Natalie Beasley placed thirtieth. For the sixth grade: Sanaa Fields and Sydney Key tied for seventh; Haley Lewis placed twenty-seventh; Jazmin Mendez placed thirty-third; and Nam Vu placed thirty-eighth.

In the Science competition, the team placed tenth o v e r a l l . Eighth grader Justice Dorman placed thirtieth. Seventh graders Sonny Wu placed seventh; Laura Carter placed tenth, and Riley Scholl placed twentysecond. For the sixth grade: Sanaa Fields placed thirteenth; Sydney Key placed eighteenth; Jazmin Mendez placed twenty-second; Jaylon Evans placed twenty-third; Breana Williams placed twentyseventh; Karmen Searcy placed thirty-first; and Jaci Simmons placed forty-first.

There were 20 teams which competed in the 3A division. In 3A, there were 113 student who competed in Number Sense, 123 who competed in Calculator, 110 in General Math, and 132 who competed in Science.
