Remembering the Good Old days
A Patriot's Opinion
By Jim Snyder
Ah yes the good old days. We have all heard that statement at least once in our lifetime. You remember back when things were simpler and life wasn’t traveling at the speed of sound. So let’s take a trip down memory lane.
Remember when politicians served the people rather than themselves. Once upon a time they were actually called “representatives” because they used to represent their constituents. Not so any more. Its every man for himself now.
Remember when schools used to teach “all” of America’s history and not just selected sections that fit the liberal narrative. Now we have to tip toe around our history so as not to offend anyone. Pretty sad if you ask me.
Remember years ago when immigrants came to the United States to become Americans citizens. Yeah I remember those days. Now we just let anyone come in and they don’t have to follow our rules, they don’t have to speak the language, and they can basically do whatever they want.
Remember when it was considered normal to be a Christian and we could pray in schools and put up manger scenes and Christmas and Easter decorations without being sued by the Freedom from Religion Foundation. Now the government tells us we have to curb our religious activities while Muslims can basically do what they want.
Remember when cash money was the preferred way to pay for things. I always loved cash money. Now people go months at a time without ever touching real money. It’s all plastic now baby.
Remember when you were a kid and you left your house at 7 am in the morning and didn’t come home till dark. We ate dirt and drank from the creek in the cow pasture and somehow we survived that horrific era. Now kids can’t be gone for more than 15 minutes without their cell phone or tablet. And no one would ever let their child drink from a creek or a garden hose. Isn’t it strange how we seemed to be in better health back in the old days? Makes you go Hmmm.
Remember when big heavy cars were considered safer to drive? Now big heavy cars are seen as gas guzzling environmental disasters that cause major damage when they hit little baby cars. Now we want to make them as light as possible with plastic and aluminum so they fly apart on impact. Isn’t technology wonderful?
Remember when adults could actually talk to each other face to face and carry on intelligent conversations. Now the text message is the preferred way to communicate, or to break up with your girl friend, or to speak to your family in a restaurant. Heck I can still remember when writing with a pen and paper was an acceptable means of communicating with another human being. Boy glad we got rid of that huh?
Ok that’s enough of a trip down memory lane for now. It’s just good to remind ourselves every now and then just how far we have come, but also how we have lost so much of ourselves thanks to technology.
