Track club qualifies 37 for state meet

Three years ago, Troy Lafayette began the Pitt Elite Track club in Pittsburg. In three years, the club has grown from eight girls to over 50 boys and girls coming from Daingerfield, Pittsburg, Mount Pleasant, and elsewhere to train. On July 16, the Pitt Elite track club participated in the TAAF Regional meet at Pine Tree.

Of the 40 students who competed with the Pitt Elite club at Regionals, 37 of them have advanced to the TAAF state meet in McAllen on July 28-31. Those who qualified finished top three in their events.

Those who have qualified for the State meet are as follows, in no particular order: Jenae Miles, Kadeviuona Andrews, Montrevia Durham, Kyl’Stajia Grant, Malaysia Burns, Markevian Thomas, Deshon Duffey, Promous Morrison, Kenterius Williams, Kartrez Andrews, Shamarniya Andrews, Jada Jordan, Shania Smith, Za’Mya Wilburger, Basia Mitchell, Traylor Mitchell, Constance Bates, Kenyasia Rodgers, Sanaa Fields, Jayda Miles, Robert Miles, Ashtyn Searcy, Xzavier Jimmerson, Joi Akinsuroju, Taylor Porter, Ashlyn Bruce, Emily Calderen, Jesiah Shepherd, Ka’Tonna Turner, Dylan Bennett, Alaijia Wilkerson, Aalaysha Williams, Ja’Kyhra Connor, Gina McKay, Twan Thompson, Jeremiah Walton, Makyah Daniel.

According to Coach Troy Lafayette, “Those that did not qualify worked hard throughout the entire summer and we could not be any more proud of each one of them. Continue to support each and every one of them as they compete for state.”
