Hughes Springs Market to open August 8

Residents in Hughes Springs will once again have a local location to purchase groceries and necessities. Brookshire’s Spring Market will open on Aug. 8.
For roughly six months the last two years, Hughes Springs residents had a local option while the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market was open across from the Hughes Springs ISD Administration building. That store closed, along with similar stores in Lone Star, Naples, Diana, and surrounding area, by the retail giant.
With the pullout of the Wal-Mart stores, cities were left with no grocery store, as well as a lot with an empty building. Many conspiracy theories ran rampant as to what the retail giant would do with the lots and building, ranging from selling them to the government, and holding on to them to inhibit another grocery type store to enter the area. The official stance from Wal-Mart Media Relations was that the intention would be to eventually sell the properties.
When word was released in June that the buildings in Naples, Lone Star, Hughes Springs, and Diana had, in fact, been purchased by Brookshire’s Grocery Company, out of Tyler, the wait was on. According to the company’s press release, “The name “Spring Market” represents and honors the company’s great history which began in 1928 with the opening of its first store on Spring Avenue in Tyler. The stores will offer hometown convenience in an easy to shop format with a surprising assortment of products at highly competitive prices.”
The first local area to receive their new Spring Market store will be Hughes Springs. The public is invited to the store’s grand opening on Monday, Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. when they can attend the ribbon-cutting, as well as take a special tour. There will also be an opportunity to see the store, meet the employees, hear from company leaders, and see what all the excitement is about.
