August 18 Tex-Ark Audubon Society Meeting

Tex-Ark Audubon Society will host speaker Dr. Hank Hayes, Region 4 Director of Texas Animal Health Commission (Mt. Pleasant office). The meeting is August 18 at Texarkana College, 2500 N. Robison Rd., Texarkana, TX. 75501 at Humanities Bldg., room 206 at 7 p.m. Refreshments at 6:30 p.m. He is a veterinarian trained at Texas A&M. He will speak on the duties of the commission and on zoonotic diseases (diseases transmitted from animal to human). The public is welcome. August 19 Mustang Stampede

Hughes Springs ISD will host their annual “Mustang Stampede” event on Friday, August 19 at 6 p.m. in the gym. Come meet the Mustang Coaches, Athletes, Cheerleaders, and band.

August 21 Annual Youth Day

Wallick Chapel Christian Church invites everyone to their Annual Youth Day, to be held on Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Sister Meledy Cranfort of Friendship Baptist Church of Texarkana.

August 25 Pancake Supper

The Daingerfield/Hughes Springs Lions Club will serve a Pancake Supper on Thursday August 25 before the Daingerfield-Hughes Springs Football Game. Serving time will be from 5 until 7 PM at South Elementary Cafeteria, located in front of the football stadium. Take outs will be available. August 28 Worship Service

Wallick Chapel Christian Church invites everyone to join them for Worship on Aug. 28 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Minister Sam McCoy.

September 6, 13, 20, 27 Preschool Story Time

Preschool story time begins on September 6 at the Hughes Springs Area Public Library, and happens every Tuesday morning at 10:15 a.m. This FREE story time lasts about 45 minutes, and is open to all preschoolers age 3 and older.

September 10 Electric Arc Furnace Reunion

Anyone who worked in the Electric Arc Furnace department at Lone Star Steel/U.S. Steel is invited to a reunion to be held on Sept. 10 at 12 p.m. The reunion will take place at Catfish Village located on Highway 155, north of Ore City.

September 11 Woman's Day

The Pine Bluff Missionary Baptist Church, located on Highway 250 between Marietta and Hughes SPrings, will celebrate Woman's Day on Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. Pastor David Early (son-in-law to the late A.O. Sasser) and the Calvary Hill Church from Dallas will be the special guest. Pastor Roy Miles cordially invites the public to attend.

September 17 Avinger Wine Festival

Kick off autumn with a celebration of wine, food, art and music at the Avinger Wine Festival, Sep. 17, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Festival will feature over a dozen Texas wineries, mouth-watering food, artisan vendors and entertainment by local performers. Admission to the festival is free. The wine garden ($5 admission, 21 and over) will feature wine by the taste, glass or bottle. Stroll the beautiful grounds of one of Avinger’s historic homes and the surrounding property on the corner of Church & Pine Streets in downtown Avinger.
