Naples police investigating weekend shooting
Police in Naples are investigating a weekend shooting that left a local teen dead.
According to a statement from the Naples Police Department, officers responded to a call in reference to a shooting on Oct. 1, at approximately 7:08 p.m. Once officers arrived on scene, they found one deceased male and one female victim who sustained injuries from gunshot wounds. The female was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Paul Pewitt Schools confirmed that the deceased was sophomore Deadrian Webster. In a post from the school’s Facebook page, “It is with great sadness that I inform every one of the death of Pewitt High School Sophomore, Deadrian “Big D” Webster. Deadrian passed yesterday evening due to a sustained gunshot wound. This a tragic loss for Deadrian’s family, as well as, our school family and community. As you are aware, it is very difficult for all of us to face the death of a child. Please know that on Monday morning, and throughout the day, Pewitt CISD counselors, area Ministers, and additional counselors from area schools will be available to students, faculty, and staff. Any student or faculty members needing to talk with someone will be able to as long as needed.”
The school hosted a candlelight vigil in honor of Webster at the football field on Sunday evening.
“The Texas Rangers are assisting in this active investigation and do have a suspect. We want to reinforce that this was not a gang related offense nor was it a drive by shooting. Please keep the family and friends of this young man in your prayers, as this has been a tragic event in our small town,” said Naples Police Chief Tommy Hunt in a statement.
