 Services for Jamae Viola Hawkins Humphrey, age 95, of Hughes Springs were held Thursday, Oct. 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Reeder-Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Hughes Springs Texas with Bro. Larry Neeley officiating. Interment followed at the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Jamae “Mawmaw” went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, Oct. 9. Jamae was born Aug. 15, 1921 in Cass County, Texas to Ozar and Ora (McPherson) Hawkins. She married Van Humphrey in a double wedding ceremony with Van’s brother Alfred Humphrey and Janice Terry, July 1, 1940 in El Paso. The couples enjoyed celebrating many anniversaries together through the years. First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs was blessed to have Jamae as a lifelong member where she served as a Sunday school teacher in the Children’s Department for 50 years. She loved each child, and they loved her in return. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be missed by all her family and friends she leaves behind.

She was preceded in death by her husband Van Humphrey, parents; Ozar and Ora Hawkins, brothers; Vernon Hawkins, Milton Hawkins and Irvin Hawkins, sisters; Lois Foster, Hazel Traylor and Wendall Hall, son Larry Humphrey and grandson Timothy Alan McKinney.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands Vanda and Charles Page, Linda and Billy Wayne McKinney; two sons and wives Don and Kay Humphrey all of Hughes Springs, Roger and Judy Humphrey of Hallsville, daughter-in-law Dona Humphrey of Longview, 13 grandchildren, 27 greatgrandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the Springs Nursing Home staff for the care she was given and special thank you to Shanae “Patty” Garrett who went above and beyond to take care of her “Little Mama”.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs.
