Lady Tigers open district with loss to New Boston

 The Daingerfield Lady Tigers began District 15AAA play on Tuesday, Dec. 13 when the Lady Lions of New Boston came to Tiger Town.

The JV game was hard fought, with New Boston narrowly coming out on top, 25-22. Jahkayla Doddy had eight points, four rebounds, and one assist. TaQuasia Latchison had eight points, and seven rebounds; while Jamie Nix had four points, one rebound, and one assist. Even though she scored no points, Tori Bennett added four rebounds, three steals, and two assists in the loss.

In the varsity match up, Daingerfield lost, 42-54. At the end of one quarter, the Lady Tigers were down by one, 11-12, and the halftime score was 21-27 in New Boston’s favor. In the third quarter, Daingerfield tied it all up at 32 with a three point shot by freshmen point guard Mikayla Roberson. The fourth quarter started with the Lady Lions up by two, 36- 34. New Boston was 7 of 10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, which proved to be too much for the Tigers to overcome. Daingerfield was 14 of 20 from the stripe, while New Boston was 26 of 39 from there, which was two shy of half of their points for the game. According to assistant Coach Jana McGoldrick, “Needless to say with 43 fouls called, they (free throws) played a big role in the outcome of this contest. “

In the loss for Daingerfield Mikayla Roberson had 14 points, (9/12 FT), three rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and two steals; Kahleyia Johnson had 11 points, (5/8 FT), and five rebounds; Montrevia Durham had six points, and three rebounds; Jasmine Tatum had five points, seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist; Dee Hall had four points, four rebounds, one steal, and one assist; and Mo Sok had two points.

Daingerfield traveled to Queen City on Dec. 16 for their second district contest.
