The Daingerfield Lady
Tigers welcomed the
DeKalb Bears to Jesse
Hanson Gymnasium to
begin the New Year on the
hardwood. Both the junior
varsity and varsity girls’
teams fell to the Lady Bears
in a district matchup.
The junior varsity squad
last by 12, 28-16. Jahkayla
Doddy had five points
with two assists, to compliment
leading scorer
TaQuasia Latchison, who
had nine points and five
rebounds. Tori Bennett
added two points and four
rebounds, and Jakia Neal
grabbed six rebounds in
the loss.
The varsity squad was
outscored in the first half,
going in at halftime down
by 23. Although the Lady
Tigers would eventually
fall to the Lady Bears, it
was not due to a lack of
adjustment and better
play on their part. After
scoring only 11 points in
the first half, the Lady
Tigers outscored DeKalb
18-31. The 23-point
halftime lead, however,
was too much for the Lady
Tigers to overcome, as the
Lady Bears would finish
them off, 52-42.
Dekalb’s leading scorer,
Mikayla Baxley, scored 18
points, but was mostly
shutdown by freshman
Montrevia Durham, who
held Baxley to only two
points in the second half.
Durham added nine
points, eight rebounds,
and one block to go along
with her suffocating second-
half defense, and
Jasmine Tatum added nine
points, four rebounds, and
five steals in the loss.
Mikayla Roberson had
seven points, two
rebounds, and three
steals; while Kahleyia
Johnson had five points,
six rebounds, and three
steals. Kiara Robinson
had five points, six
rebounds, and three
steals; Dee Hall had five
points, six rebounds, and
two steals; Mo Sok added
one point, and two
rebounds; and Makayla
Robinson had one point,
and one rebound in the loss.
