His specialty was operating the largest cranes and making the most significant and technical lifts, often traveling around the country to perform his craft. Later, he started his own timber company and spent more than a decade as a logger. He brought core values of discipline, hard work, and attention to detail in everything he did and passed these traits on to his sons. He especially enjoyed working on special projects for his children and grandchildren. The family offers its sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Elite Home Care, especially his therapist Scott Rice, Lisa Durden of Visiting Angels, Red Hatten, Samantha Jones, the staff at The Springs Nursing Center, and Heart to Heart Hospice who provided Charlie with loving compassionate care. Services for Mr. Smith were held Aug. 8 at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed at Hughes Springs Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you either perform an act of kindness, donate to a charity of your choice, or make a contribution to advance the research for Parkinson’s in the memory of Charlie Smith.
