Three-Peat State Champion Tigers produced three NFL hopefuls

Although we have done our due diligence to ensure that all former players who have made the jump to the professional ranks are recognized, we understand there may have been some who were inadvertently left out. DAINGERFIELD – Of the thousands of high school football players, very few play college ball. Even fewer advance to the professional level. According to NCAA.com, approximately 6.8 percent of high school football players advance to the NCAA. The percentage drops to 1.5 percent of NCAA athletes advancing to the professional level, according to the same website. Daingerfield High School boasts 13 former athletes who have played in the National Football League (NFL), and one who currently serves as a coach. This week, The Steel Country Bee will continue to focus on the most recent Tigers to have ties to the NFL.

Steve Edmond, DHS Class of 2010: Edmond was a four-year linebacker at the University of Texas at Austin, with 34 starts in 49 career games. His 323 career tackles was first among active players and just 23 away from the UT all-time top 10. Edmond was a three-time All-Big 12 choice, earning honorable mention honors 2012-14. He was also a member of the watch lists for the 2014 Butkus Award and Rotary Lombardi Award and a prep All-American who played in the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Edmond was a part of the won three state championships in high school. Edmond was invited to training camp with the New Orleans Saints.
