Letter to the Editor: 'The Greatest Generation betrayed'

Dear Editor:

Nearly 70 years ago, brave American men and women fought in World War II against an enemy that threatened the world. That enemy (Nazi Germany) ruled with an iron fist. They oppressed their own people. They controlled the media; they spied on their own people. They punished anyone who went against the government’s rules.

Now flash forward to today. What are the latest headlines: “IRS targeting citizens,” “Justice Dept. spying on reporters,” “Government tapping our phone conversations,” “Groups punished for their political beliefs.”

Does any of this sound familiar?
