Game rooms to be regulated with ordinance
By TONI WALKER
DAINGERFIELD – Game rooms are becoming a growing sight on the local landscape. Those located within the “incorporated city limits” of Daingerfield will soon be subject to more regulations after the Daingerfield City Council voted to approve and implement a ordinance regarding the establishments.
Prior to the Nov. 13 council meeting, game rooms, or sweepstakes rooms, had few regulations. In a meeting of the Morris County Commissioners Court earlier on Nov. 13, District Attorney Steve Cowan informed the commissioners that the county did not have jurisdiction to govern the game rooms.
“Only certain counties have been given the authority to regulate these game rooms,” said Cowan, “but I have asked our representative Cole Hefner to work on getting Morris County added to the list of counties with that authority. Right now, the cities have more authority than the county to pass ordinances governing these game rooms.”
