‘Tis the season. It’s a phrase that is that is heard from Thanksgiving until December 25. But what is it the season for? Let’s take a look.

For some, it is the season of overspending and raking up debt. People today are so consumed with “stuff ” that they are willing to rack up enormous debt just to have the latest gadgets and gifts. I see pictures of Christmas trees that you can barely see for all the gifts. Why? I mean, I understand about wanting to give your kids more than you had, but shouldn’t there be a stopping point? If not, people will believe they should get or be able to give anything and everything. And if they are ever unable to do so, it could spell disaster. So, maybe instead of purchasing everything they want, you teach them about getting less so they can give more. Let them pick out something for someone who may not get anything.

For others it is a season of regret. They see all the newest gadgets and gifts, and maybe their child or spouse has asked for one of those gifts. But, they know it is just not possible to have the funds to purchase it. Or maybe they don’t even want to put up a Christmas tree because they know there will be very few, if any gifts to go under it. And it is not because they do not try. They work multiple jobs, barely seeing their family, but all their income goes for necessities. There is none left for frivolous items that will only be used for a little while before they break or are discarded.
