The budget was adopted at a lower amount than the previous year at the Daingerfield City Council’s Sept. 16 meeting. The budget was adopted at $4,034,060 compared to last year’s $4,694,578. The difference is due to the clarifier that was purchased last year for the wastewater treatment plant.
The tax rate remains the same as the previous year at $.656734 per $100 valuation. The council approved discounts for early payments of taxes.
Jim Goodman was appointed as election judge, and Mary Ellen Seymore was appointed as early voting judge.
City Manager Carl Teel presented an extensive report to the council on the past year.
“As your city manager, I want to thank you for the opportunity of serving the citizens of Daingerfield,” Mr. Teel said. “During my first year, I believe some notable accomplishments have been achieved, and I welcome the opportunity of reviewing those with you.
“As always there are numerous daily routine duties and responsibilities that are handled by the various departments of our city. We are fortunate to have employees who take pride in their work and serve the citizens of Daingerfield very effectively. However, above the daily duties and tasks, this past year has been filled with numerous challenges for our city. I will endeavor to provide a descriptive narrative and general context for each of the challenges we have faced throughout the year. Additionally, some of these matters remain an on-going concern for the city and continue to be a work in progress.”
Mr. Teel addressed the work at the wastewater treatment plant.
