Office has issued a list of
most wanted individuals.
Anyone with information on
any of the following people
should contact the Cass

Tiffany Humphries, also
known as Tiffany Friday,
wanted for probation violation,
possession for a controlled
substance.
Henry Vance Garrett, also
known as Pete Garrett,
wanted for assault/family
violence.
Stacey Dawn Gearlds,
wanted for bond forfeiture
for theft, also for bond forfeiture
for forgery.
James Tyler Gilbeault,
wanted for bond forfeiture
for theft.
Joshua Ray Hanson,
wanted for bond forfeiture
for possession of a controlled
substance.
Matthew Jeffery, wanted
for a probation violation for
an accident involving injury.
Travis Dylan Marsh,
wanted for a probation violation

Savannah Wright, biology
major at Harding
University from Hughes
Springs, is among more
than 1,400 University students
included on the
dean’s list for grades
achieved during the fall
2016 semester.
The dean’s list is published
each semester by Dr.
Marty Spears, University
provost, honoring those
who have achieved high
scholarship. To be eligible,
a student must be carrying
12 or more hours with a
3.65 or higher grade-point
average and no incompletes.
Harding University is a
private Christian university
located in Searcy,
Arkansas. Accredited by
the Higher Learning
Commission, it is the largest
private university in the
state. Harding’s student
body is made up of students
representing 50
states and 54 nations and
territories. The University
offers more than 100
undergraduate majors,

Hughes Springs senior Celeste O’Dell
received the Good Citizen Award from the
Daughters of the American Revolution for
her essay on the duties of citizenship and
the impact that individual actions can have
on society.

First, Kissin’ Kousins
closed. Now, another area
restaurant has shut their
doors. The Rabbit Hole
Game Room and Pizza, in
Cason, has closed after 10
years.
The Rabbit Hole, which
was owned and operated
by Robert and Debra
Hunt, was best known for
their fried catfish, which
had numerous regulars
flocking to Cason each
week. The restaurant also
served a variety of freshmade
pizzas, as well as
chicken fried steak and
wings.
Robert, or Rabbit, as he
was known by the regulars,
made the sauces, relishes,
and anything else
he could, which gave The
Rabbit Hole’s food a
homemade, down home
flavor. There were times
that the restaurant would
run out of the breading or
sauce needed for a dish
and, instead of serving the
dish with a store-bought
product that did not meet
the standards, the dish

Rickey Joe Griffin, of
Hughes Springs, has been
sentenced to six years in
the Institutional Division
of TDCJ, according to
Criminal District Attorney
Randal Lee.
The sentence was
handed down in the Fifth
Judicial District Court in
Cass County, with Bill
Miller as the presiding
judge. Griffin was sentenced
following a burglary
of a habitation
charge, and had his community
supervision
revoked by Miller.

In a move that highlights
the department’s efforts to
squelch the drug issue in
Lone Star, the Lone Star
Police Department made
good progress with a
major drug bust on Jan. 6.
According to LSPD
Chief Larry Fleet, the
department had been
tracking a potential suspect
for several weeks.
“Sergeant Brett Gutierrez
took the lead on this case,
and developed a confidential
informant over the
course of the investigation,”
said Fleet. Through
the investigation, the
department was able to set
up “buys” with the suspect,
and gathered enough
information to execute a
warrant on Jan. 6.
On Jan. 6, members of
the department, with
assistance from other local
agencies, executed a warrant
at a residence on
Avery Lane in Lone Star,
where they found the suspect,
Keenan Ector in possession
of large amounts of

Chances are, if you spot
a Lone Star Police officer
on the street, you might
not recognize them. No,
there is no major undercover
sting occurring, but
the department has
received two, new-to-the
department vehicles, that
are already being put to
good use.
According to Chief
Larry Fleet, the new vehicles
are thanks, in large
part, to Sergeant Brett
Gutierrez. “Last year, Brett
took the initiative and
applied for a grant
through the East Texas
Council of Governments
to purchase new vehicles.
Originally, we were
approved for $80,000 to
purchase two new vehicles,”
said Chief Fleet.
Fleet said the department
was then notified that, due
to a lack of funds, they
would only be receiving
$40,000 for the vehicles.

state on the ability to use
the funds on used or new
