They say that all good things must come to an end. If Saturday’s Independence Bowl is any indication, the football career of Daingerfield native Keyarris Garrett may not be ending any time soon. Garrett, a three-time Texas state Champion in 2008, 2009, and 2010 with the Daingerfield Tigers, went on to the University of Tulsa, where he has played wide receiver for the Golden Hurricanes. As a freshman in 2011, Garrett caught two passes in seven games for the Hurricanes. His sophomore totals skyrocketed, when he caught 67 passes in 14 games, for a total of 845 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2013, it seemed as if Garrett may have been done, as he only notched seven receptions for 68 yards and no touchdowns. The little known fact to go along with those numbers, however, is that Garrett only played in two games for the Hurricanes that year. Garrett rebounded in 2014 with 47 receptions in 10 games. Garrett amassed 698 yards while scoring five touchdowns for the Hurricanes.
