Signing up

Five more Daingerfield Tigers have signed letters of intent with colleges to play football. From left, are Fernando Rodriguez, who will attend Cisco Junior College; Carlos Macias, who will attend Navarro Junior College; Donovan Dublin, who will attend Cisco Junior College; Jacolby Simpson and Tykeema Wilson, who will both attend Arkansas Baptist College. Seniors show off scoreboard

The Daingerfield Tigers’ senior returning baseball starters show off the team’s new scoreboard donated by the Nix, Patterson & Roach Law Firm. They are, from left, Stone Kelley, Josh Terry, Shawn Hooks, Ruben Mims and Ty Wilson. Daingerfield’s next home game will be against Jefferson on March 8 at 6:30 p.m. They will have their District home opener on March 12 at 7 p.m.

Avinger Indians top the Yantis Owls 51-36

The Avinger Indians moved on in the Class A playoffs with a 51-36 Bi-District win over Yantis Feb. 18.
Lake Loyd led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points and five assists. Jeremiaha Clark added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Dillon Barton chipped in with 10 points and six boards. 
Antonio Neal and Desmond Chism scored 7 points each, with Chism coming away with three steals. James Baggett had 2 points and seven boards.

Lady Mustangs finish third; players earn All-District honors

The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs finished third in District basketball play. The team ended the season with a 9-6 District record, and a 14-17 record overall.
They advanced to the Bi-District round and fell to Chapel Hill of Mount Pleasant.
All-District
Sha’Traven Ransom and KaJza Murphy made the First Team All-District, while Kaycee Willis made Second Team All-District. Jasmine Royal and Ashlin Roach were both Honorable Mention winners.

Lady Mustangs score 14 in win over Lady Cardinals

The Hughes Springs Lady Mustang softball team dropped their second game of the year Feb. 19 to the Rivercrest Lady Rebels. Behind the 17-strikeout performance from the Lady Rebel pitcher, the Lady Mustangs were held to just two hits.
The top performance from the Lady Mustangs came from Breanne Gunn, who went 1 for 3 with a 2 RBI double off the right-centerfield wall in the fourth inning.
The  Lady Mustangs captured their first win of the season on Feb. 16, beating the Maud Lady Cardinals 14-10.
The Lady Mustangs pounded out 10 hits led by junior catcher Ashlin Roach’s 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, Halie Pippin 2 for 4, Kaitlyn Morris 2 for 4, Destiny Gonzales and Becca Crossland 2 for 3, and Catie Wertz 1 for 2.  Roach sparked the Lady Mustangs’ hit parade with a double and a triple.
Kaitlyn Morris got the win in the circle for the Lady Mustangs with a complete game performance. Morris kept the Lady Cardinals off balance with eight strikeouts.

Mustang varsity and junior varsity teams post wins

The Hughes Springs varsity baseball team got off to 01 and 0 start with a 5–0 shutout of Atlanta on Feb. 18. The Mustangs were led by Dylan Moore on the mound; he threw six hitless innings with nine strikeouts.  Zach Bassham got the save.
At the plate Cody Hawkins led the way with 2 runs scored and a hit. 
The Mustangs traveled to the Jefferson Tournament last weekend.
JV
The Mustang junior varsity team started their season with a 6-2 victory of the Atlanta Rabbits on Feb. 19. Jake Moore and Zane Hanks led the way on the mound.
The Mustangs got key hits from Colton Crawley, Zane Hanks, and Cody Pilgrim.
The JV teams hosted the Hughes Springs Junior Varsity Tournament over the weekend.

Lady Tigers win first in Quitman Powerlifting Meet

The Lady Tigers were the first place team in the Quitman Powerlifting Meet.

The Daingerfield Tiger and Lady Tiger powerlifters competed in the Quitman Powerlifting Meet on Feb. 16.
The Lady Tigers came home with the first place team trophy.
Three Lady Tigers took first place in their weight categories: Nicole Phillips, TaChrissa Boyd and Adrianna Hill.
Chasity Davis and Makayla Hatten were second place winners, and Shametriece Black earned a fourth place win at the meet. Sixth place went to Shakia Williams and Devin Camp. Chablis Barber won ninth place. Also placing at the meet was Shan Johnson, who took 11th.
Competing for the Tigers were Willie Evans, who won second in his weight category and Keithon Walker, who took fourth.

A bittersweet season / Daingerfield Tigers

The young men representing the 2012 Daingerfield Tiger football squad truly made their hometown proud. From the very beginning, these young men were determined to prove our motto true: Passion-Pride-Tradition;
and they did just that! Coach Aric Sardinea and his coaching staff worked diligently since before the start of twoa- days to prepare their team to go all the way.
