Quake on Town Lake to benefit Cypress Basin Hospice

Drag boat racers from all over the country have fallen in love with Mt. Pleasant’s Town Lake. They arrive each year to participate in “Quake on Town Lake,” a benefit event supporting Cypress Basin Hospice.

The race this year is expected to bring Deep South Racing Association (DSRA) racers from as close as Mount Pleasant and as far as Missouri, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama.

Cypress Basin Hospice invites everyone to bring the family and make a day at “Quake on Town Lake.” The races will take place July 20-21. Gates will open at 10 a.m. on both days

District Champs

The Hughes Springs All Stars 8U Dixie Team went undefeated 4-0 in the District Tournament held in Harleton. Hughes Springs had 72 runs scored and only 9 runs allowed. The team will play in the Dixie Youth State Tournament in Palestine. Coaches on the back row are James Evans, Tommy Jenkins, William Page and Ronny Golden. Three Mustangs named to All-State Team

Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All State Team’s board of directors selected three Hughes Springs Mustangs for the All State Team. Chosen were Dylan Moore, First Team Pitcher; Chad McKinney, First Team Catcher; and Zach Bassham, First Team Short Stop.

Many Mustangs and Daingerfield Tigers made the 16-2A All-District Baseball Team, as chosen by the Coaches Association.

Bardwell named to all-time roster

A Daingerfield graduate is one of nine that have been named to the Southland Conference 50th Anniversary all-time softball roster.

The nine Bearkats are April Bardwell of Daingerfield, Tori Benavidez, Jennifer Delcambre, Shonta Garr, Tami Hoover, Jennifer Jimenez, Julie Thomas, Shelbi Tucker and Hailey Wiginton.

Titans are #1

The Hughes Springs Titans 8U Dixie Team went undefeated for the 2013 season, 13-0 in league play and 12-0 tournament play. The Titans 25-0 season had 328 runs scored and only 77 runs allowed. 'Clean, drain and dry regimen is bad news for zebra mussels

Nothing ruins a zebra mussel’s day more than a boater who Cleans, Drains and Dries his boat to prevent the spread of this small but devastating aquatic invasive species.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is urging boaters and anglers to follow the simple Clean, Drain and Dry procedure to keep zebra mussels from further expansion in the state.

“Now that water temperatures are getting warmer, zebra mussels are approaching their peak period of reproduction,” said Brian Van Zee, TPWD Inland Fisheries regional director. “The best way to stop zebra mussels is for boaters who operate their vessels on Lakes Texoma, Lewisville or Ray Roberts, to Clean, Drain and Dry their boats before launching into another body of water.”

Hughes Springs sweeps Edgewood; advanced to Regional Semifinals

The Hughes Springs Mustangs kept things rolling toward a trip to the State tournament in Round Rock by sweeping Edgewood in two games in a best two out of three series last weekend. The Mustangs won Game 1 of the series 10-7 on Friday night and returned on Saturday afternoon to finish the Bulldogs off by the score of 9-2.
