Mustangs do well against Queen City, prepare to open regular season Friday

By Richard Colegrove
The Mustang football team took to the field Thursday evening against the Queen City Bulldogs in both teams final pre-season tilt before the regular season begins on Aug. 30.
The Mustangs showed more fluidity and explosiveness against a Bulldog team that at times looked overmatched.  The Mustangs signature Slot-T offense was clicking most of the night with junior Fred Hopkins slashing and darting through the Bulldog defense seemingly at will.  Hopkins seems to be in mid-season form and is a threat to score every time he touches the ball.   Read more in our e-edition:  http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Daingerfield1//Magazine33789/Full/index.aspx?id=33789

Tigers ready after scrimmaging North Lamar

The Tigers are looking to be ready for their upcoming season opener against Gladewater Friday after finishing up the preseason with a home scrimmage against Paris North Lamar friday.
Head coach Aric Sardinia said he was happy with his team’s performance in their final scrimmage.
“It was hot out there and it is hard to tell exactly where you are and where you will be in a real game situation. We were able to see some things  that we were wanting to see, though,” he said “I was impressed with our performance overall. We did a good job in the quarter that we played. Overall, I was pleased but we have to continue to take it one day at a time.”

Coach happy with Tigers’ scrimmage performance

By Jeremy Weber
jweber@campcountynow.com

Tigers’ head football coach Aric Sardenia said he was happy with his team’s performance in their scrimmage at Jefferson Saturday despite his starting team failing to reach the end zone.
“We came out and we competed well and that is really what we are looking for at this stage of the season,” Sardenia said. “We got a goot chance to look at a lot of kids and most of them got a lot of playing time.”
While the starters did not reach the end zone, the second team Tigers did score during the scrimmage, providing another bright spot for Daingerfield fans.
“Sure we wanted to score every time we had the ball,” Sardenia said. “What we really wanted to see during this scrimmage was our kids competing well, and they did that.”
