Avinger Lady Indians stomp Union Hill Lady Bulldogs

Avinger Lady Indian and senior Jodi Gonzalez led with 17 points, three rebounds, one assist and five steals in a 46-28 win for the Lady Indians over the Union Hill Lady Bulldogs last week. Michelle Bolden followed with 7 points, five rebounds, two assists and five steals, while Jayden Grant added 6 points, two rebounds and five steals toward the win.

Former Tiger named to ASC All-Academic Team

LeTourneau University sophomore David Dorantes (Daingerfield, Texas) was one of 26 LeTourneau student-athletes from cross country, soccer, and volleyball, who were named to the 2013 ASC Fall All-Academic Team on Monday.
The 26 student-athletes represent the fall sports sponsored by the YellowJackets in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball as well as football for other ASC members.
 To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must be classified academically as a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student during the competition season and have been in attendance and completed at least one academic year (two consecutive semesters) at their institution.
They must also have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as certified at the conclusion of the academic semester in which the ASC sport championship is held.

Mustangs win close game

The Mustangs basketball team took to the hardwood Friday night, welcoming the Redwater Dragons to town.  
With the Mustangs entering the night’s contest with a 5-8 overall record and 1-3 in district play, the home-town team was looking for a jumpstart. The Mustangs got just what they needed it in a big way, with a dramatic last second win, 65-64.
The Mustangs were led in scoring by Fred Hopkins Jr., and Michael Harris, with each scoring 19 points.
