Daingerfield kicker doing well at Navarro College

By Ben Terry

Daingerfield’s own Carlos “Charlie” Macias is fastly gaining respect from other teams in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference as one of the premier kickers in the conference, as well as in the nation.
In Navarro’s 33-24 win over sixth-ranked Tyler Jr. College  in the conference semi-final game, Navarro led by only a field goal at the half but scored 17 points in the second half (five points which were made by Macias) enroute to the victory over the Apaches.
Macias, a 2013 graduate from Daingerfield, was flawless going 3-3 on his extra points and 4-4 on his field goals (25,36,37,42).
Macias was named the MVP of the game. Macias also broke a school record at Navarro College for most field goals in a game (4) and also broke another record in single season kick scoring mark.

Mustangs upended by Waskom, 56-38

By Rick Colegrove

Friday night, the Hughes Springs Mustangs squared off against the Waskom Wildcats in a matchup to determine the winner of District 9-2A.  In a contest that was highly anticipated and talked about in many circles, Mustang fans left Friday nights heavyweight matchup wondering what went wrong.
The Mustangs were unable to stop the potent rushing attack of the wildcats and enter the post season as the second place representative out of District 9 in the Class 2A Division II playoffs, following a 56-38 loss.
The slugfest started with the Mustangs throwing the first punch with a long touchdown run by Chris Royal that quickly put the Mustangs up 6-0. Michael Martinez followed with a two-point conversion and the score was 8-0 with nearly one minute off the clock in the first quarter.

The Daingerfield Lady Tiger cross county team was in action at the Regional Meet in Grand Prairie Nov. 2 as they ran the course at Joe Pool Lake.
The team of Sade Bunton, Yesenia Bravo, Marivy Olguin, Jordan Freeman, Alexius Williams, Nekoda Coleman and Kiara Anderson along with Alternates McKenzie Scott, Aiana Alexander and Jazmin Solis made the trip for the race.
The top three finishers for the Lady Tigers were Bunton, Bravo and Olguin as the group came in 22 as a team in a race that included more than 175 runners.
“I was very proud of these young ladies and their performance that Saturday,” head coach Dana Carter said. “Three of the team members ran their best times ever and we certainly have the foundation to build off of for the next year. If you see these young ladies out and about, make sure to give them a pat on the back for a job well done.”

Lady Mustangs earn district co-championship

By Jeremy Weber
jweber@campcountynow.com

It took an extra game to decide the District 16-2A volleyball title last week as Hughes Springs and Queen City tied atop the standings at the end of the regular season.
The Lady Mustangs needed a win against Hooks in the final game of the regular season Tuesday to wrap up an outright district title, but Hughes Springs lost in five sets to the Lady Hornets. With the loss, Hughes Springs fell into a tie at the top of the district standings as both the Lady Mustangs and Queen City had a 12-2 district record.
The Lady Mustangs took the first two sets against the Lady Hornets, 25-20 and 25-18 and looked to be on their way to a district title. The Lady Hornets had other ideas, though, as they came back to win the final three sets 25-21, 25-22 and 15-8.
