Lady Mustangs lead in district softball honors

Hughes Springs and Redwater shared the top coaching honors in the District for the year. Coach Tisha Thompson of Hughes Springs was named Coach of the Year.
 
The Offensive Player of the Year was captured by Ashlin Roach of Hughes Springs.
 
Camryn Byrd, a freshman in Daingerfield, shared Newcomer of the Year honors. Voting was conducted by the District coaches.

Lady Tigers honored at awards assembly

The 2013–14 Daingerfield Lady Tiger Athletic students were honored with an awards assembly on May 23. The Lady Tigers received a certificate for each sport they completed, in good standing, during the school year. Certificates were also given to those who were named to the Academic All-District Teams for maintaining an average of 90 or above during that particular sport’s season. A special recognition to the 2014 Lady Tiger Softball team because all 14 of the team members maintained that average during their season.

Mustang baseball season ends

The 2014 season of Hughes Springs baseball came to an end May 23. The game, although it did not end the way we would have liked, was a great game and showed what great heart and character that the young men of Hughes Springs have.

Hughes Springs hosts District Tennis Tournament

The Hughes Springs’ Mustangs were the District Champions with 11.5 points in the District Tennis Tournament held March 25 and 26 in Hughes Springs. The Lady Mustangs captured the runner-up spot with 7.5 points.
New Boston boys captured the runner-up spot with 6 points and the Linden-Kildare girls captured the District Championship with 8.5 points.
In girls’ singles, Alyssa Bynum of Linden defeated Nayla Girard of Hughes Springs 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) to win the girls’ singles title. Samantha Parrish of Pewitt defeated Marli Cummings of Hooks 6-0, 6-1 in the third place match. Girard of Hughes Springs then defeated Parrish of Pewitt in a playback match 7-5, 6-4 to earn second place. Bynum and Girard will advance to the regional tournament.
