A Patriots Opinion

Well here we are once again having to deal with Americans being killed on our soil, in this case four brave Marines and one Navy sailor, by someone who clearly was involved in radical Islamic terrorist activity. The young man who killed these brave soldiers, Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez’s was born in Kuwait, and had made several trips to countries in the Middle East in the past few years. From My Perspective

Ok, so I have already admitted in a previous column that I am a Facebook junkie.
When I can’t sleep, I check Facebook. When we are in the car, and my husband is driving, I am on
Facebook! And Facebook is an integral part of how I keep up with my some of my family. Being on Facebook
a lot means I see a TON of the ever-so popular “selfie” phenomena. And you know, “selfies” are a lot
like this column. They are the subjects perspective of themselves. To continue reading this article purchase the

The “Trump” factor: why is it working?

A Patriot's Opinion, by Jim Snyder
Well, here we are watching the beginnings of the run for the
2016 presidential horse race. And so far there is no shortage of republican
candidates. But there is one candidate who is causing quite a stir
in the GOP field. Donald Trump, or “The Donald” as he is known in some
circles, is making a big splash. To continue reading this article purchase the

From My Perspective

It is weeks like the last couple that make me thankful I do not subscribe to television service. Every time I turn around, the news is filled with “This one was offended by that,” and “That offends me, so it is wrong.” You know what offends me? It offends me that, when I state my opinion, it is offensive and I am silenced. When others state what offends them, I am expected to be tolerant of their belief and respectful of their “human-ness.” To continue reading this article, purchase the July 9 edition of the Steel Country Bee or go to our online e-edition at: http://www.etypeservices.com/Daingerfield%20BeeID312/default.aspx

From My Perspective

Daddy. Pop. Father. Dad. Papaw. Poppa. There are many names that we use
for the paternal figure in our lives. With Father’s Day approaching, I would be
amiss if I did not take time to thank and appreciate the men who are most special
to me.
First my daddy. Without Edward Delane Walker, To continue reading this article, purchase

Congratulations to the Class of 2015

With graduations taking place all over the area, I have been thinking back to my own graduation. Wow! Was that really 21 years ago? It is hard to believe that I have been out of high school for 21 years. In the last 21 years, our class has been through quite a few changes. There have been marriages, births, and career changes. Members of our class have lost loved ones: some have lost children, many have lost parents, and some may have even lost their own lives. When there is a life event, such as a birth, or death of a loved one, you can bet that the Class of 1994 will be there, offering condolences or congratulations. That has been one of the huge benefits, in my opinion, to having Facebook. When my dad passed away, I had numerous classmates comment on Facebook, offering their condolences and glimpses of what my dad had meant to them. My only wish is that we as a class would have been able to stay better in touch, not just on Facebook.

Happy Anniverthday

My family likes to do things in clusters. We seem to cluster up our birthdays and anniversaries, and we tell people that is to make it easier on everybody to remember. One of these “Walker clusters” is approaching this weekend. Over the span of five days, my family will celebrate four birthdays and one anniversary, and one graduation. The "C" Word

Cancer. If you don't already know someone who has fought this terrible
disease, you probably will. If you have never been touched by cancer in one way or another, then you are
extremely lucky. Most of us either know someone with cancer, someone who has beat cancer, or someone
who gave all they had to this disease.

A trip around the world

I’m going to make a statement that will be no shock to most FBC Hughes Springs people: “I love it when
Christians make themselves available to take the Gospel overseas!” Let me explain. I’m not partial to
other cultures. I can’t stand to fly! I don’t particularly like exotic foods. I’ve had the stomach bug...I don’t go for my
health. I love to see believers carry the Gospel overseas BECAUSE it puts them/you in a position where you are
completely vulnerable spiritually. Meaning you can either trust God to work through you or you can spend a week
(or more) entirely frustrated with the world.

Silly Rabbit!

As we are approaching Easter, I have been pondering several “traditions” that either I did as a child or do with my children. I have also been wondering: what is the point?
Most people have some sort of “typical” Easter celebration. Most times, these include eggs, bunnies, candy and gifts. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love all those quaint ideas.
