Randal Lee, Criminal District Attorney, released the following information on cases disposed of in the Fifth Judicial Court of Cass County for the Month of August, 2016. Bill Miller was the Presiding Judge. The following were all jail or prison sentences.

William Paul Singleton, of Hughes Springs, was sentenced to seven years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for Burglary of a Habitation. Singleton was also sentenced to seven years Institutional Division, TDCJ, for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. Singleton was also ordered to pay $314.00 in court cost.

Brian Anthony Preciado, of Hughes Springs, was sentenced to five years in the TDCJ Institutional Division for assault causing bodily injury, family violence with previous conviction. Preciado also was sentenced to five years for bail jumping and failure to appear, and ordered to pay $314.00 court costs. Preciado’s sentences will run concurrently.

Randal Lee, Criminal District Attorney, has released the following information on cases disposed of in the County Court of Cass County for the month of August, with Becky Wilbanks, as the Presiding Judge.

Jeremy Dylan Green, of Daingerfield, was sentenced to 30 days in county jail for theft of property, over $20, less than $500.

Benjamin Wade Smith, of Hughes Springs, was sentenced to 90 days in the county jail for failure to identify as a fugitive, and refusing to give information.

Khadijah Lashun Anderson, of Hughes Springs, was sentenced to 12 months deferred adjudication for possession of marijuana. Anderson was also ordered to pay a $500 fine and $297 in court costs, as well as 40 hours of community service, random alcohol and drug testing, and to complete a drug offender’s education program.

The Daingerfield FFA Show Team exhibited their heifers recently at the Four States Fair.

Bryce Ridenour placed 1st in his class of Beefmasters in the Junior show and 4th in the Open Show.

Hailey Byrd placed 1st in her class and won Grand Champion Beefmaster in the Junior Show and 2nd in her class in the Open Show.

Caitlin Cox placed 4th in her class of Santa Gertrudis during the Junior Show and 2nd in her class in the Open Show.

Hailey Byrd placed 1st in her class of Angus in the Junior Show and 2nd in the Open Show.

Lone Star city workers work to clear a path for crews to remove this white Ford Fusion from the woods following an accident on Friday, Sept. 23. Shaquincea Charde Hawkins, of Avinger, walked from the accident, but was transported to Good Shepherd for precaution.

Cason Volunteer Fire Department recently received aid from two assistance programs administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.

The department received an excess military vehicle, a Bowen-McLaughlin-York five-ton transport truck, from the Department of Defense Firefighter Property Program.

A requirement of the program is that the department turn the military vehicle into a fire-fighting apparatus within 180 days of acquisition.

“We painted the truck and did some other repairs like moving the red line reel down behind the cab so a fire-fighter doesn’t have to be on top of the truck to reach the line,” said Jerry Ragsdell, Cason VFD Chief. “Being able to reach the line from the ground is a safety issue and safety is a priority with our department.”

In addition to the military truck, the department also received a grant through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program. The grant was used to fund a slip-on unit for the back of the truck.

Billy Reid Keister, wanted for bond forfeiture, terroristic threat.

Chad Dale Littlejohn, wanted for bond forfeiture, criminal mischief.

Carlina Ann McComb, wanted for deadly conduct.

Ambreka Nikeia Pinke, wanted for theft by check.

Joe Louis Richard Reel, wanted for bond forfeiture, fleeing; bond forfeiture, evading arrest or detention; and bond forfeiture, driving while license invalid.

Once a year, the Daingerfield Alumni Association gathers to honor graduates of Daingerfield High School who have moved on from their time in the hallowed halls of Daingerfield to make extraordinary contributions to their communities. On Sept. 24, the group met once again, honoring four graduates from various years. The evening began with alumni and their families perusing the silent auction, making bids on everything from collector’s coins to signed Daingerfield Tiger footballs. After Mike Gilmore, who was in charge of mood music and the sound system introduced the Mistress of Ceremonies, Pamela Lee, an invocation was offered up by Donald Roy Vaughn, DHS class of 1962. Those present then partook in a steak dinner that included steak, baked potato, salad, and peach cobbler, prepared and served by the Daingerfield Fire Department and the Daingerfield High School cafeteria staff.

Daingerfield’s annual Daingerfield Days Fall Festival will be held on October 8. The annual benefit golf tournament, that is typically held the weekend before the event, will be held on the same day this year.

As temperatures start to fall, Daingerfield Police Department wants to send out a friendly reminder in regards to keeping properties clean, neat, and without inoperable vehicles. All Police Officers at the Daingerfield Police Department investigate and work code violations.

According to Chief Tracey Climer, “Our objective is to make neighborhoods safe, strong and attractive. Citizens are encouraged to foster a strong sense of civic pride and voluntarily comply with city ordinances. We want to remind citizens the city has a dumpster at the Public Works Department off of Carpenter Street for Daingerfield citizens only.”
