John and Betty Traylor sponsor Lee Greenwood

John and Betty Traylor recently gave $5,000 to sponsor the recent Lee Greenwood performance at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College. The Traylors (center) are pictured presenting the donation to Nita May (left), NTCC Director of Development, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement.

The next upcoming concert at the Whatley Center is the Bellamy Brothers on Monday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $30 and students are $10. Tickets for all Whatley events can be purchased online at www.whatleycenter.com.

DHS Math team qualifies for Regional meet

Members of the Daingerfield High School Math team competed in the UIL District Meet on March 19. The Calculator placed first overall and qualified for the Regional meet, which will be held in April. The team, along with their individual finishes, is as follows.

Freshman Natalie Beasley placed fourth, sophomore Victor Gonzalez placed second, and juniors Zachary Gilmore and Jansen Laney placed third and sixth, respectively. The Number Sense team placed third as a team. Those team members include Beasley in fourth, Laura Carter in ninth, Gonzalez in tenth, and Riley Scholl.

Feature plant announced for 2018 Master Gardeners’ Plant Sale and Garden Show

The Cypress Basin Master Gardeners will hold its 9th annual Plant Sale and Garden Show on March 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held at the Mount Pleasant Civic Center, located at 1800 N. Jefferson Avenue in Mount Pleasant. Admission is $3.00.

Taylor O’Dell of Hughes Springs graduates from Harding University

SEARCY, Ark -- Taylor O’Dell of Hughes Springs is one of more than 400 graduates who received a diploma at Harding University’s commencement exercises Dec. 16, 2017.

O’Dell received a Bachelor of Arts in advertising.

Graduates include students from the College of Allied Health, College of Arts and Humanities, College of Bible and Ministry, Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration, Cannon-Clary College of Education, Carr College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Sciences, and the Honors College.

9-1-1 celebrates 50 years of service

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Austin – 9-1-1 authorities in Texas (Commission on State Emergency Communications, Texas 9-1-1 Alliance, Municipal Emergency Communication Districts Association and the Ark-Tex Council of Governments) announce the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first 9-1-1 call. On February 16, 1968, Alabama Speaker of the House, Mr. Rankin Fite, made the first 9-1-1 call from the Haleyville City Hall.

Since then, 9-1-1 technology has evolved and continues to evolve to meet consumer expectations. Every advancement has improved our nation’s ability to get better, more reliable information to first responders so they can do their job of saving lives and property.

Morris County Retired Teachers give $500 to NTCC Work Scholarship Program
