DHS Math team places third overall in home tournament

DAINGERFIELD – The Daingerfield High School Math team recently hosted a math/science meet on Nov. 11. In the meet, the host team placed third overall. Individiual results are as follows.

Representing the Daingerfield High School junior class, Zach Gilmore placed first in calculator, fifth in number sense, and fourth in science. Jansen Laney finished fourth in calculator and seventh in science.

Sophomore Victor Gonzalez brought home third in number sense, second in calculator and general math, and seventh in science.

Quilting exhibit on display at NTCC

Quilts by local quilters hang in the Whatley Center foyer in what is now an annual tradition for the NTCC art department. For the second consecutive year, quilters bring their treasured quilts to share with the community. The exhibit runs from Monday, Nov. 6 through Wednesday, Nov. 29. A reception is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the Whatley Center foyer, and refreshments will be served.

Seven quilters brought 25 quilts for this exhibit, which is titled Beyond the Rail Fence. The public is invited to attend.

NTCC Honors group presents to Webb Society

Five Northeast Texas Community College honors freshman recently presented the trailer of their new film on Mary Kay at the annual fall meeting of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society. The Webb Society is the collegiate auxiliary of the Texas State Historical Association.

Warren Wu, Rhylie Anderson, Jordan Whelchel, Karsen Nelson, and Matthew Chambers (pictured from left) have all taken major roles in the production of the film, due for a premiere this February. The students took turns presenting key aspects of the film’s development.

Band earns fourth straight top rating

On October 24, the Blazing Blue Tiger Band from Daingerfield traveled to Pine Tree to the UIL Region Marching Contest. They received their 4th straight Division One rating, which qualified them for the Area marching contest.

Junior high math team places third in first meet of year

The Daingerfield Junior High School Math-Science team kicked-off the year by competing at the Foster Middle School meet held on Oct. 28. Overall, the team placed third behind Atlanta and Spring Hill.

Individual students placing in the top ten in each event are as follows.

In eighth grade Number Sense, Jazmin Mendez finished second, followed by Sanaa Fields in fourth, Haley Lewis in sixth, Julissa Chavez in eighth, and Jaci Simmons in tenth. Seventh grade saw Kylah Haley finish third, and Sarah Meacham finished eighth. For sixth grade: Dante Salazar placed first, followed by Jair Chavez and Taurean Drake in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Students win Fire Prevention poster contests

Students from local elementary school spent time during October learning about fire safety and prevention. Each elementary school held a Fire Prevention Poster contest, with the posters being judged by local firefighters. Below is a list of winners from each area school.

Crews respond to structure fire on CR 1100

Fire crews from Daingerfield and Lone Star worked to contain a structure fire on CR 1100 on Oct. 26. The house was fully engulfed when crews arrived. According to Morris County Sheriff’s Deputy Hershel Stroman, there was no electricity to the home and there were no injuries in the blaze. Jenkins Fire Department also responded to assist in extinguishing the blaze.

Daingerfield State Park to host Second Annual Halloween Funfest

Daingerfield — Daingerfield State Park is celebrating fall and Halloween with the 2nd Annual Halloween Funfest.

It wouldn’t be Halloween without pumpkin carving. On Friday, Oct. 20 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., drop your best jack-o-lanterns off at the park’s Gift Shop. Your creations will help decorate and be judge for the “Pumpkin Carving Contest” and winners will be announced Saturday night at 7 p.m. The fun begins on Friday starting at 6:30 p.m. with a “Dog Costume Contest.” Dress you dogs in their best Halloween threads and bring them out to the park. Judging will occur at the historic Pavilion and winners will be announced at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday night beginning at 6 p.m., a “Kids Costume Contest” will be judged. Kids come wearing your best Halloween trick-or-treat gear to the Pavilion. Multiple age groups will be judged (0-3; 4-7; and 8-12) and winners will be announced at 7 p.m. Saturday.

NTCC Culinary Arts to host public dinner Oct. 26

The Northeast Texas Community College Culinary Arts Program will host a special Thursday Night Dinner on Oct. 26. The dinner will be held at the NTCC Culinary School in historic downtown Pittsburg and is open to the public.

The menu for the evening will include bacon-wrapped stuffed meatloaf with rosemary roasted potatoes and country green beans with yeast rolls and a dessert to be determined.
