I have lived in: North West Texas and North Central Texas, but the best is North East Texas in Avinger for the past 27 years.
Family: My husband, Jeff; son, Josh; daughter, Jessie and two granddaughters, Josalynn and Lottie.
Pets: Five Jack Russell Terriers.

Summer Feeding Program
Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD is sponsoring the summer feeding program. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. and lunch is 10:50 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. All children under the age of 18 eat free. The program starts June 10 and runs through July 11. Breakfasts are at the South Elementary café. Lunches are taken to Daingerfield City Park each day at 11 a.m., Lone Star City Park at 11:30 a.m., and County Squire Apartments at noon.

Pageant
Miss American Sweetheart Pageant will be held June 29, at 10 a.m., at the Linden-Kildare High School Auditorium for ages 0-18.  Deadline to enter is June 15. Contact Jamie O’Rand-Stone for more information at:  903-756-5577 or 903-756-5041 orandstone@hotmail.com.

East Texans join forces to promote helping others

The first few days after its inception, East Texans Paying it Forward’s Facebook page swelled to more than 1,600 joining the cause.

Mike and Traci McRae spearheaded the group and began the page on March 3.

Stevens Family Reunion
Descendants of O.W. and Annie Lou Wellborn Stevens will have their annual family reunion at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at The Church On The Rock. All relatives and friends are invited.  Bring a covered dish.

 

Cheer Clinic

There will a cheer clinic held at the Daingerfield High School June 14 and 15 for ages 2 to 12. On June 14 the clinic will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and students will require a sack lunch and a water bottle. On June 15, it will be from 8 a.m. to noon, with the parent show at 11 a.m. All entry forms and dues must be turned in by June 3. For more information contact Skye Staples at 903-285-2993.

Daingerfield Police Department is stepping up patrols for Memorial Day Click It or Ticket Campaign curing May 20 through June 2. Officers will be focusing on seat belt violations. Chief Tracey Climer urges everyone to buckle up.

Stormy night didn't dissuade crowd

The four-day Northeast Texas Rick Gage GO TELL Crusade wrapped up May 15 with stormy skies sending the crowd from the Sam Parker stadium stands inside to pack out the Mount Pleasant High School auditorium. And, free tacos were served in the cafeteria during the student activities.

Crusade officials estimate attendance of about 4,500 over the crusade’s four nights and report 227 salvation decisions, 157 re-dedication decisions and 50 other spiritual decisions totaling 434 life decisions from crusade attendees.

Vocalist nominated for award

The final round of voting has started for the "East Texas Music Awards" (http://etxmusic.com) and will continue through May 31.

Local vocalist Julia Beers is nominated for "female vocalist of the year." Even if you voted in Round 1, you will need to vote again.

Sesame Literary Club meets

Sesame Literary Club members met on May 2 at Giovanni's Italian Restaurant in Avinger for their final meeting of the year.  Hostesses Wanda Cockrill and Mable Hall greeted guests at luncheon tables decorated with spring flowers and colorful bandanas. 

Prior to the meal Mrs. Cockrill called on club member Judi Howell who held a short officer installation service.

Revival

The annual revival will be held at the Pine Buff Baptist Church, located on Highway 250 between Hughes Springs and Marietta, on June 7 at 7:30 p.m. Guest evangelist will be the Rev. S.L. Harris, pastor of the Collier Chapel Baptist Church in Baldwin. The public is invited.

Movies in the park are in full swing

The city of Hughes Springs is hosting movies in the park in Spring Creek Park on Highway 11 next to city hall offices. All movies start at dusk or approximately 8:15 p.m.
