‘Inherit the Wind’ presented by Theatre Northeast

Theatre Northeast will present the classic courtroom drama, “Inherit the Wind,” by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Northeast Texas Community College. Performances will run April 25-27 at 7:30 p.m. and April 28 at 2:05 p.m.
Described as “…one of the truly great American dramas of this century,” “Inherit the Wind” has as its genesis the famous Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925. Two great lawyers face off in a small-town courtroom with the eyes of an entire nation upon them. The accused? A science teacher. His crime? Teaching evolution in a rural high school.

Avinger One Act Play advances to Area competition this month

By Marlene J. Bohr
mbohr@steelcountrybee.com
Avinger One Act Play has performed at Zone and District winning honors and is set to perform at Area competition this month.
Avinger One-Act Play performed “The Happy Scarecrow” by I.E. Clark Publications, Woodstock III as its one act play. The plot of “The Happy Scarecrow” is a meany of a witch dares a frilly little fairy to prove there’s such a thing as happiness. So the fairy brings a scarecrow to life and promises to make him a real man if he can find happiness. It’s a strange search, sometimes comical, sometimes sad—and the scarecrow meets a variety of characters, each providing an insight into human relations. The Scarecrow’s search evokes a little smile, a little fright, and perhaps a little tear.
