Neighborhood Fishin’ Program Expands to Tyler

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has begun stocking channel catfish into Neighborhood Fishin’ Program lakes in urban areas across Texas. Stockings will take place every two weeks through the summer and fall except during August, when high water temperatures may limit fish survival.
New to the Neighborhood Fishin’ program this year is Woldert Park Pond in Tyler. The park is located at 501 West 32nd street; the pond is downhill from the Glass Recreation Center.
Neighborhood Fishin’ is a program of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

Forum on water infrastructure needs of Northeast Texas to be held April 24

The Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) announces a forum to discuss urban and rural perspectives on the water infrastructure needs of communities in Northeast Texas. Our speakers will discuss Texas’ future water needs and provide an opportunity for the public to obtain valuable information on this important issue.
According to the 2012 State Water Plan, Texas’ population is projected to reach 46 million by 2060. As Texas continues to grow at a rapid pace, the demand for water will also increase. Businesses, municipalities and agricultural communities all require water for different purposes. The passage of the state water fund on the November 2013 ballot has provided funding for the state’s water plan. This Regional Water Forum will provide an opportunity for public discussion and an avenue for informed public decision-making on which water projects to fund.

Northeast Texas Community College theatre to present ‘Rumors’

Theatre Northeast will present the laugh-a-minute farce ‘Rumors’ by Neil Simon, at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the Northeast Texas Community College campus, April 24, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. and April 27 at 2:05 p.m.
One of Neil Simon’s most popular comedies, ‘Rumors’ takes place in the posh suburban residence of New York’s Deputy Mayor, Charley Brock who, at the beginning of the play, is lying off-stage with a bullet hole in his earlobe. This puts a slight crimp in the plans for the 10th wedding anniversary party for himself and his equally absent wife, Myra. As the guests arrive, each couple tries to keep each new arrival from finding out about Charley’s possible suicide attempt. The confusion is not helped by the plethora of rumors about Charley, Myra and most of the guests.

Northeast Texas Community College to celebrate GenTx day

Northeast Texas Community College is asking area residents and businesses to join them in celebration of GenTX Day on Friday, May 2. To participate, all Texans are encouraged to wear their favorite college T-shirt on May 2. The goal is let the new generation and others know they are supported as they make college decisions and become career ready. GenTX is a state-wide initiative to raise awareness about college and to encourage people to apply for college.
The event is designed to encourage students, particularly the graduating class of 2014 and adults considering returning to school, to think about and/or get ready to attend college. A traditional college degree or a technical vocational path awaits those who want to pursue an education and or training before hitting the job market.
