College students receive Chapter of the Year Award

The Northeast Texas Community College Webb Society, a student chapter of the Texas State Historical Association, won its first Chapter of the Year Award on March 8 in San Antonio.  Webb Society members receiving the award  are Ana Martinez, Tyler Reynolds and Kayleah Cumpian.

The state leaders of the Webb Society cited the NTCC chapter, composed mainly of students of NTCC Honors, for its production of a film based on the life of Wright Patman, and its continuing effort to popularize the importance of Caddo artifacts. The Patman film can be accessed online at www.ntcc.edu/honors. It tells the story of a 50-year congressman from Northeast Texas, and his crusade to help the rural poor.  To learn more about the Webb Society or NTCC Honors, contact Dr. Andrew Yox at ayox@ntcc.edu.

The Buzz Teen violence should not occur; but it does

Family violence occurs on a daily basis and when we think about it, we think it is confined inside a household or family unit. Sadly we are learning family violence is stretching its ugly head into teenage relationships. Some of us watched television news night after night as the search went on a month ago for a Marshall teen that went missing. Her boyfriend was mentioned as a person of interest and then let go; however, to return to him later when they found her body. He is now a suspect in her death.
