Commissioners approve election services agreement

The Morris County Commissioners Court approved an election services agreement renewal with Systems and Software at its Feb. 10 meeting.
County Clerk Vicki Falls said this is a three-year agreement.
“This company provides our ballot layout, etc,” Mrs. Falls said. “There is no increase in cost.”
The commissioners approved Cynthia Hayden as an early voting election judge.
“She has helped before, and she has agreed to help this time,” Mrs. Falls said.

Patriot’s Pen winner

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1890 awarded Clair Smith with a certificate, pen, a set of dog tags and a $50 check for her outstanding essay on patriotism. She is an eighth grader at Daingerfield Junior High School. Several area students participated in the Patriot’s Pen writing contest, but officials say Claire’s paper won first place. Quarter Master Bobby L. Meadows presented Clair with her awards.

Junior high Math-Science team compete at Pine Tree

The Daingerfield Junior High Math-Science team competed at the Pine Tree meet on Feb. 3.  Several students placed in the top 10 in each of the events. 
Seventh grader Zach Gilmore placed eighth in Number Sense. Sixth graders placing were Justice Dorman with third, Victor Gonzalez with fifth and Jamie Nix with ninth.
Zach captured second place in Calculator with Jansen Laney and Hannah Welch tying with sixth place.

Restaurant strategies workshop planned

Northeast Texas SBDC and Chris Tripoli, A’ La Carte Foodservice Consulting Group, will present “It’s a People Business After All,” a restaurant strategy workshop, on Feb. 26 at the Northeast Texas Community College Culinary Arts School, 114 Jefferson St. in Pittsburg from 9 to 11 a.m.  This workshop is one in a series specifically designed to address typical issues that may arise in the restaurant business.

Final day of sign-ups for baseball and softball signups is Saturday

Saturday, Feb. 22, will be the final day to get boys or girls signed up to play baseball and softball this year for the Daingerfield-Lone Star Dixie Youth Baseball & ASA Softball. The teams will play at Irvin Park.
Age groups are  3 and 4 year old T-Ball (Boys and Girls); 5 and 6 year old T-Ball (Boys and Girls); 7 and 8 year old baseball and 8 and Under softball; 9 and 10 year old, 11 and 12 year old and 13 and 14 year old baseball and 10 and under, 12 and under and 14 and Under softball.

Daingerfield Seniors stay active at Ice House

The Daingerfield seniors met in January at the Old Ice House.
A garage sale is planned in the spring. Donations are needed. Stella Williams will chair this activity.
Seniors voted to have a ‘giveaway day’ each fall, especially for children. The center will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. for giveaway coats. If you have coats and other items for children and adults, bring them to 106 Scurry.

Local man arrested for continuous sexual abuse of a child

A Jenkins man was arrested Jan. 28 and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child or children, according to Morris County Sheriff Jack Martin.
“On Jan. 28, we received a report of child sexual abuse involving two victims,” Sheriff Martin said. “An investigation resulted in the issuance of a warrant and the arrest of Gail D. Tooley, 77, of Jenkins.
